Teddy the school dog...

Teddy is a Cockapoo and his birthday is 22nd January 2018. Teddy is Miss Kelly’s dog and she has had him since February 2021. Miss Kelly is the GLA pastoral lead.

Teddy is a rescue dog and has found his calling in life as Rowanfield's school dog. He provides comfort and therapy to children (and staff!) when they are finding the day overwhelming.

Teddy loves coming to work and supporting everyone at RIJS. When he is not at school, he loves to nap and go for long walks with his dog-sister, Bella the Chihuahua, and his other doggy friends.

Teddy does not visit every day (because he also 'works' at BCPA) but is in at least two Tuesdays a month.

It has been shown that children can benefit both educationally and emotionally from being around dogs. Examples of these areas are improvements in reading skills, behaviour, attendance, confidence and empathy. In addition to these benefits, the students at Rowanfield have demonstrated that they enjoy spending time with and learning alongside a dog.

“Dogs are a powerfully cost-effective way of helping children feel more secure at school and a low-tech approach to reducing anxiety”.  Sir Anthony Seldon (Vice Chancellor University of Buckingham).

We realise that some parents and children may have concerns being around dogs but we are hopeful that both our school dog and the students can work together to overcome these fears. However, if you do not wish for your child to come into contact with our dog then we will ensure that she is kept away.
